On the ninth day of my journey, I am greeted with a perfect blend of history and glamorous flair. First, we head to the three impressive fortresses of Bellinzona, a UNESCO World Heritage site. There, I meet a local expert who guides me through the fascinating history of these medieval castles. They are breathtaking examples of Alpine fortified architecture and tell the story of the strategic importance of this region in past centuries. The thick walls and towers transport me to another time, giving me a wonderful insight into Switzerland's historical heritage.
After the visit, the journey continues through the stunning region of Graubünden. We cross the San Bernardino Pass and pass the charming town of Tiefencastel, following the young Rhine River as it winds through the valley. The drive is an experience in itself, with ever-changing landscapes and views that are hard to surpass.
Soon, we reach the famous Julier Pass, leading us to the glamorous St. Moritz. This luxurious resort town is nestled in the beautiful Engadine Valley, surrounded by the impressive Graubünden Alps. St. Moritz exudes luxury and elegance, and I am excited to explore this world-renowned city. My accommodation, the elegant Hotel Crystal, promises the highest comfort – the perfect place to unwind after the day and prepare for the upcoming adventures.
The tenth day of my journey begins leisurely, filled with anticipation of the possibilities this world-famous holiday destination offers. St. Moritz, synonymous with glamour and jet-set life, promises many exciting activities. I have the whole day at my leisure, and I find it hard to decide: should I stroll through the upscale boutiques and soak in the luxurious atmosphere of the city or perhaps enjoy one of the many outdoor activities?
Luckily, my guide provides me with a mountain pass that grants access to all the cable cars, funiculars, and chairlifts in the Engadine St. Moritz region – and it’s free. This gives me the perfect opportunity to explore the surrounding Alpine world. A ride over the Bernina Pass is also on the list of recommendations, as the scenic train route is considered one of the most beautiful train journeys in the world.
In the end, I opt for a relaxing cable car ride that takes me high into the mountains. Once at the top, I enjoy the spectacular views of the Engadine, the snow-covered peaks, and the crystal-clear mountain lakes. The fresh wind and breathtaking landscape provide the perfect setting to enjoy the day peacefully and leave the stresses of everyday life behind.
In the evening, I return to my cozy Hotel Crystal and unwind, letting the day come to a calm end.
